Missions – Firehouse Shelter

The Firehouse Shelter opened in  1982 and has been serving the chronically homeless male population in the Birmingham area.   Services offered are emergency shelter, soup kitchen, clothes closet and social services.  Our church prepares and serves a meal quarterly,  we have all ages that serve together from the  Jr high youth through 70 years.  We served from 45-75 men (sometimes we have a few women)depending on the weather.  Not only do we serve a hot meal we have a chance to visit and chat with them and hear their stories. It is a humbling experience but those of us that serve receives just a much as a blessings as those we serve. The only requirements to serve on the team is a Love of Jesus, a smile and a pair of tennis shoes!     We have been participating with the Firehouse Shelter for over 8 years.
